Most business software is built around tasks: boards, sprints, assignments, dependencies. That makes sense for a team building a product. It makes much less sense for a photo studio, an accountant, an interior designer or a freelancer.
What a small business actually does every week
A small business wins a client, agrees the work, gets it in writing, does the work, gets paid and closes the project. The weekly questions are simple:
- Is the contract signed?
- Has the advance arrived?
- Has the work been delivered and accepted?
- Is the closure document signed?
- Has the final payment come in?
What heavy tools cost
A large system asks you to set it up, learn it and keep it tidy. It is priced for larger organisations and carries features you will never open. For a small business, that effort comes out of the hours you could spend on clients.
Start with what you do
Pick a tool that matches your actual week: contracts, signatures, client engagements and payments in one place. If you grow into a team with many connected projects, you can add heavier tools then. Until then, less is faster.
